ST30 Low Cost Scratch Tester
The ST 30 is a scratch tester designed for assessing the adhesion of thin coatings deposited on flat substrates. The tester enables measurement of the critical load at which a coating first shows signs of failure.

TESTING
The coated sample is mounted on a sloping table that is driven in the scratch direction. The test speed, the angle of the slope of the table, and the final load are set for the test. The indenter is loaded onto the sample until the selected initial load is reached and the scratch test is then performed.
The resulting scratch can be examined under an optical microscope. By measurement of the total length of the scratch and the distance along the scratch at which failure first occurs the critical load of the coating can be calculated.
